Does American Airlines have an agreement with Alaska Airlines?

American Airlines and Alaska Airlines have solidified a new codeshare agreement, significantly broadening the travel options available to their customers. This strategic partnership, effective from February 15, will see Alaska Airlines and its regional partner Horizon Air placing their “AS” code on numerous American Airlines flights, including routes from Seattle to St. Louis and from Los Angeles to various key destinations such as Austin, Fort Lauderdale, and New York’s Kennedy Airport.

In return, American Airlines will add its “AA” code to Alaska and Horizon flights across the western United States and the Pacific Northwest, regions where American has a limited presence. This reciprocal arrangement will open up 30 new destinations for American Airlines customers, enhancing their travel flexibility and convenience.

The agreement is designed to offer passengers a wider range of travel options, increased flight frequencies, and more seamless service. This collaboration is particularly beneficial for frequent flyers, as it allows them to earn and redeem miles across both airlines, a relationship that has been in place since 1999. Elite members from both airlines will continue to enjoy priority boarding, free checked bags, and other perks when flying on either carrier.

This partnership not only expands the route networks of both airlines but also strengthens their competitive edge against other carriers with extensive codeshare networks. By leveraging each other’s strengths, American and Alaska Airlines aim to provide a more comprehensive and customer-friendly travel experience, reinforcing their commitment to service excellence.
